About Us
Fun & Friendly spanish lessons in Glasgow
Estrellas Brillantes was founded in 2017 by Rachel Peebles, and she has been teaching Spanish to children (age 0 -15), for over 5 years. Classes run in community venues in Busby and Uddingston, using La Jolie Ronde’s award-winning methodology. Each level is tailored to your child’s age and stage, and Spanish is learned through fun and interactive songs, games and activities, so children don’t even feel like they’re learning!
Why learn Spanish?
Award winniing tuition with Rachel Peebles
Rachel grew up in Glasgow and gained an honours degree in Economics at Glasgow Univeristy, before going to Seville to gain her certificate in 'Teaching English as a Foreign Language' (TEFL) Soon after that, she moved to Bolivia, where she lived for 9 years, speaking Spanish every day, while working with children and families in a Christian Community Project that supported local families though education, health, sports and community work.
On her return to the UK in 2011, she spent 7 years working with Glasgow Women's Aid, supporting children and young people who had experienced domestic abuse, and volunteering at the Glasgow City Mission. In 2017, she started teaching Spanish to children (age 0-11) with La Jolie Ronde and is currently teaching around 200 children a week in after school and weekend clubs. She has a 4 year old boy, who is bilingual, so her days are spent speaking Spanish at home as well as in class!
She won La Jolie Ronde's 'Licensee of the Year' (in Scotland and the North of England) in 2019, Franchisee of the Year at the national Club Hub Awards in 2021, and was a finalist again at the Club Hub Awards 2022, and she won a silver award in the Best Businesswomen Awards, in the category 'Best Businesswomen Working with Children and Families'. She also won the What's on 4 Kids award for 'Most loved activity provider in Scotland and N. Ireland', was a finalist for 'Remarkable Acheivement' award, for the fundraising she is involved in with her children's classes.
Estrellas Brillantes has now raised over £20,000 for charities in Bolivia and Uganda, and this year they're taking part in Children's Activities Week, to raise money for Caudwell Children, to support children with disabilities and autism. Fundraising events are a big part of Estrellas Brillantes, and each year, different clubs and events are run to raise money for charity, generously supported by the children and families that attend classes. It's amazing what can be done when we all work together towards a common goal!
At the end 2022 Rachel won the Acing Adversity Award at the Single Mum's Business Network Awards, and she won the Against All Odds award at the Family Network Awards in March 2023. In June 2023 she is in the final for Franchisee of the Year, and Overcoming Adversity in the Business Success Network awards.
Rachel loves Spanish and is passionate about promoting language learning to all ages! As she learnt the language from scratch in Bolivia when she first moved there, she understands what it’s like to learn Spanish as a beginner. She started teaching adults over 5 years ago with 'Language for Fun' and she is excited to have the opportunity to add to her growing children's classes and teach Spanish to adults also - it's never too late, or early, to learn a new language!
